Role allocation

Before starting production, as a group we sat down and decided which roles would be needed for our film to be completed efficiently and to a high standard. We looked at who would be able to perform the role to their best of their ablilty. Although we had indivual roles, we all as a group contributed to every aspect of of the film and helped each other.

Allocated roles;
Camer Operater- Warren Brown
Editor- Kirandeep Kaur
Director- Alka Droch

Scripts used withou production

In our film we used dialogue in two different scenes. First was in our police station scene, as a group we gave particular points to the actor to talk about but allowed him to improvise.
Secondly was our voiceover, as a group we sat down and wrote a script for the actor to say.

Voiceover
"How could I let myself get caught,
No-one must know,
He cant ruin me, he wont ruin me!
Im gonna kill him,
Im gonna  find him and kill him,
I cant let him breath a word,
Im going to hunt him down."

Pictures on set

These are some of the shots we filmed on set, these were our initial storyboard ideas. In the editing process we decided to not use the footage of these shots, believeing they did not positivly contribute to our final prodution.

Evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms ands conventions of real media products.
The opening to my Thriller film starts with a black and white logo followed by grey, black and dark blue coloured titles. With using these dark colours a somber atmosphere is created, implying it is not going to be a bright happy film. Therefore fitting to the conventions of thriller movie titles, as no thriller movie uses bright colours for the titles. So I believe just from the titles, I am letting the audience know that is a thriller movie I have created and not, for example a Rom-com.
Again to enforce the dark feel of thriller movies, in the editing I have edited the mise en scene, so that the lighting becomes dimmer and more eery, this again fitting with the conventions of thriller movies.
Also the music used conforms to the thriller movie style. The music is jumpy and with the use of fast tempo and guitars has a edge to it. All thriller movies have music that intensifies the scene and I believe the music used in my scene enhances the intensity, and conforming to the conventions.
Thriller movies tend to have male as the main character being dominate throughout. My film again conforms to the stereotype of male dominance and traits of being psychotic. Although the major character in the film who is also male, does not try to fight back in any physical form, this is chagenllening conventions becuase traditional thriller moives and general movies, tend to have another character who defeats the bad guy.

2. How does your medis product represent particular soical groups?
Our film conforms to the convention of male dominace in thriller movies. The male gender dominates our film, as the main and major characters are male. The femal gender is portrayed as weak in our production just as most thriller movie conveys females. It is a female who is seen being murdered in our production is being murdered by a male. This is the norm in most thriller movies.
Our production also flags up the associations of different social classes. The muder is a Police detective, having any job within the police would imply that they are middle class or above. On the basic that the muder is a police dectective, society would not think twice to doubt him that he is anything but perfect, whereas the underclass ( poorly paid jobs) citizens would be the first to be questioned. Also the major character is working class, and when he discovered that the murder is infact a Police dectective he believes he has no power over someone of a higher status.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Within our group we decided that New Line Cinema would be best to distribute our production. New line was founded by Bob shaye in 1967. New line started out as a Independent studio but soon went on to become one of Hollywood's major film studios. With producing well established thriller films such as 'Seven', 'The number 23', 'The long kiss goodnight', 'The cell', we believed our thriller film would do well to be distributed by Newline will all its previous knowledge and success of thriller films. In being produced by New Line our film would be sure to be watched by exsisting New Line viewers, also magazines and adverts would be open to advertise our film knowing it is being produced by a major company, as it implies it is going to be a good film.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Most Thriller/action/horror are watched by males, where they are targeted an a particlar gender, it is the norm for male to typically enjoy these type of films. Therefore our thriller product is very much targeted at males, due to the dark feel feel about our film, when being advertised I donnot believe females would be intised by it. (As females tend to enjoy watching romantic comedys).
We have rated our film as a 15, as it could poetially invovle to much blood and voilence, and a knife is shown , we believe it would be suited more to 15s and over, also as it has no humor and childlike features within the film. Thrillers may be seen as too scary for young children, older boys and men tend to enjoy watching thrillers, also within thrillers are normally a plot that the audience has to concentrate to keep up with/understand. Our thriller movie has a twist in it that envloves careful watching to understand the plot. Young children may not be able to make the connections in thriller films the audience is expected to make.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?
Our film does well to serve the codes and conventions of a thriller movie, with our dark title opening, dramactic music and twist in the plot, we were sure to attract audiences that like the thriller genre. To market the our film I would  advertise using posters, major billboard prints. Also smaller images in magazines along with cast interviews and film reviews. Along with TV and radio adeverts to scope to a wider audience. I would partner with leading brand Apple to play our trailer on their site also link with various websites to have pop up trailers when someone entres there site. I believe all this advertising would reach the eyes of many, giving our film a better chance of beening veiwed.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
In the process of my this film I have learned to use the software Final Cut Pro, learnig how to edit, capture and enhance footage. Also using the Mini DV that allows the tape to transfer the footage onto the Final Cut Pro. We used Final Cut Pro on Apple Mac software, on the Mac there is a music softerware called Garge Band, although in the end we never composed music from there, I learned how to use it.
With filming the action I have learned more about angles and  accurancy of using a camcorder, also using a camcorder on a stand more precisely.
Before starting this task, I had never blogged before, so using blogspot to publish my work, I believe is a  postive contribution that technology has made, making it easier to get access to. Also within the process other technologies have been helpful with putting everything together, we used a CamerPhones and a computor scanners to transfer our work to each other, and props that added to out production.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
From the preliminary task I have learned how important it is to have members within your group who are a organised, reliable team force to carryout the production inorder for everything to be done on schedule and completed to a high standard. At the start of the process I was uncertain of handling a video camera, incase I pressed the wrong button are did not record rightly, incase I recored over previous work etc. I can now use the video camera adequately without hesitation, so in future I will be able to sufficiently film again.
At the begining of the course I did not know what match on action or the 180 degree was. I know now what they mean and how they are used. After having practise runs and lessons of going through them I am now able to perform them, which I did when filming. I was able to stick within the guide lines (rules) of filming.
